Every April, the Month of the Military Child is celebrated to commemorate the unique sacrifices made by military children. On March 29, 2024, President Biden kicked off the celebration with a presidential proclamation. You can read more on the Proclamation here.
This year's theme is “Taking Care of Our Military Children,” which aims to raise awareness of the valuable services and programs available to promote the well-being of military children, youth, teens, and their families. The Department of Defense collaborates with local government, schools, military-serving organizations, companies, and private citizens to host unique events honoring military children every year.
Communities worldwide are encouraged to participate in unique events and activities throughout April to support and express gratitude to military children for their bravery and sacrifices. Military OneSource highlights the following ways to participate:
- Purple Up! On April 8, wear purple and join the Office of the Secretary of Defense in honoring and raising awareness of Purple Up Day to express your support for our amazing MilKids.
- Share the dedicated Month of the Military Child landing page with military families. Examine the various resources, podcasts, movies, giveaways, and other materials related to quality of life that are accessible to families with military ties. Find out more about the School Liaison Program, foster care and adoption, youth and teen programs, parenting resources, and more.
- Spread the word about the MilKid appreciation items. Throughout April, free giveaways will be available for your military community.
- Share your celebrations on social media. Find everything you need in the Month of the Military Child 2024 social media toolkit to be part of the celebration.
- Use the Month of the Military Child signature block for emails. Show your support by attaching a special signature block to your emails.
